The Faculty of Psychology at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta (UMS) is one of 12 faculties at UMS, established in 1983 through UMS Rector’s Decree Number 092/II/1983. The establishment of the Faculty of Psychology is one of Muhammadiyah’s efforts to realize its ideals in realizing a truly Islamic society through charitable endeavors and education. At its inception, the Faculty of Psychology at UMS was affiliated with the Faculty of Psychology at Gadjah Mada University (UGM). At the time of its inception, public interest in the Faculty of Psychology was very low, so that each year the Faculty attracted only a dozen students. The entire academic community of the Faculty of Psychology remains committed to continuing to strive, so that the Faculty of Psychology advances, develops and is able to provide direction for change. Over the past 38 years, the Faculty of Psychology at UMS has continued to experience very significant development, both in capacity and quality. At its inception, the Faculty of Psychology only had one department (Prodi), namely the Department of Psychology with low interest, but currently interest in entering the Faculty of Psychology is quite large and ranks second among all Study Programs at UMS. Currently, the Faculty of Psychology has three study programs, namely the Bachelor of Psychology Study Program, the Master of Professional Psychology Study Program (established in 2004), and the Master of Psychology Study Program (established in 2007). On December 20, 2016, the UMS Psychology Undergraduate Study Program officially received an A predicate from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT). Then in 2021, the UMS Psychology Study Program achieved the UNGGUL predicate. This achievement demonstrates the strong commitment of the UMS Faculty of Psychology to maintain the quality of the Study Program as one of the centers of undergraduate psychology education in Indonesia. As a form of commitment to realizing the noble ideals of Muhammadiyah, the UMS Faculty of Psychology has established a vision, mission, goals and strategies (VMTS) until 2029. This vision is derived from the UMS vision, which is to become a center for education and development of Islamic and Indigenous Psychology that provides direction for change in 2029. The vision was ratified by the Dean’s Decree No. 392 / A.6-VIII / PS / VIII / 2017. This vision is further translated into the faculty’s mission: 1) producing graduates in the field of psychology who are qualified, professional, and Islamic, 2) developing research and publications in the field of Islamic and Indigenous psychology, and 3) developing service in the field of Islamic and Indigenous psychology for the welfare of society.
